Removing a start because they don't have parking. Overall center is excellent. You can go in without membership but you are not going to have a wifi. Membership fee is 400 per year.
its a great library but I have to say this librarians talk alot, they are really sweet but I think as librarians there sole duty should be to maintain silence in the library instead of stopping other they themselves talk so much in loud pitch really disappointed in this part other than that its great
American Library has really peaceful, clean and very positive environment. Highly recommend for the students and professionals.
I would give this place 3 stars, for the following reasons: It’s an embassy that also houses a small library. The space is well air-conditioned, has clean restrooms, hygienic drinking water, and Wi-Fi access (for members). These are basic but essential facilities for students, and it’s good that they’ve covered them. However, there are some clear shortcomings. The biggest issue is limited capacity—it gets crowded quickly. On top of that, many of the power charging sockets don’t work. If you’re carrying devices like a laptop, phone, or tablet, charging becomes a real struggle. The book collection is also not very engaging or extensive, which takes away from the overall library experience. Another frustrating point is the incorrect information online. If you check Google, it often shows the place as always open (since it’s an embassy). In reality, the library operates only from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. Overall, it has the basics right, but needs improvements in infrastructure.
I spent the entirety of 2025 studying at the British Council Library across the road, and I thought that was a good library. I shifted from there to the American Center in 2026, and I'll have to say here is much better than the former and even costs less. The biggest perk is that the total area where you can sit down with your laptop or books is greater than the British Council Library. You also do not need to leave the air-conditioned building if you want to have lunch as the cafeteria is in the building itself. This is not the case in the British Council Library. There, at the cafeteria, you can only eat the food you buy from them. If you've got lunch from home, you've got to go outside; which is uncomfortable, both at the peak of summers and winters here in New Delhi. Moreover seating is sparse both in and outside the library. Necessary context is that I am a student, and I only use the library as a place where I can go and study in a noiseless, calm, and peaceful environment. I have not used the e-library or the book lending service enough to comment on that. If you're a student looking to study or a professional looking for a place to work, the American Center is much, much cheaper. In fact, I believe it's the best in the city.
